Careers
The Berwick Middle School careers programme aims to give pupils advice and guidance to enable them to make informed choices about future academic subjects, Higher Education options, training and careers.
Throughout their time at Berwick Middle School, through high-quality PSHE lessons and well-being sessions, pupils are introduced to the concept of thinking ahead to formulate goals and ambitions, to realise the importance of decisions they make now and to identify the steps they can begin to take now to help reach these goals. In addition to this, pupils attend workshops in varying formats, that focus on invaluable skills such as teamwork, compromise, leadership and entrepreneurship and many more.
Every pupil needs high-quality career guidance to make informed decisions about their future, so Berwick Middle School's KS3 pupils engage with the Gatsby Benchmarks.
The eight Gatsby benchmarks of Good Career Guidance are:
1. A stable careers programme
2. Learning from career and labour market information
3. Addressing the needs of each pupil
4. Linking curriculum learning to careers
5. Encounters with employers and employees
6. Experiences of workplaces
7. Encounters with further and higher education
8. Personal guidance
Suzie McCreath Bird is our school careers lead and she works closely with all staff, as well as local employers and numerous other stakeholders to provide pupils at Berwick Middle School a tailored, extensive and exciting Careers Programme that will be delivered throughout the year and culminate in a ‘Careers Week’ in the Summer term.
